Second Opinion…
Hello! So a quick update: Today I had a couple appointments. One with my normal oncologist for weekly blood work and check up. The other appointment with a gastrointestinal cancer doctor at IU Hospital for a second opinion. I was afraid it would be a road block with no answers but instead it was actually productive! This doctor agreed with the diagnosis and that we are on the right treatment plan with my current doctor. The doctor also agreed that surgery at this point is not an option but didn’t rule out in the future! (this made me very hopeful) While he agreed with most, he did want to do more in depth genetic testing. I had a genetic test a year and a half ago for Lynch Syndrome which is a genetic disorder that increases the risk of many types of cancers particularly colon cancers. Back when I was tested for this, it returned negative. With this more in depth test, it would test for other more rare cancer causing genes with the hopes that when one cancer treatment regimen is no longer effective, they will better know what treatment plan to switch to. Also it will help our girls and my siblings better understand their risks if something were to be found. So this Friday we meet with a geneticist to begin that process. He wants to to see me again after this first cycle of treatments so roughly a couple months to go over my latest scans at that point and see whats next. So I now have 2 doctors treating me which I feel very optimistic about!!
